The Shires management and security staff were joined by shop teams and customers as they hopped on bikes on Saturday (30 June) to pedal over 100 miles and raise money for charity.

Eighty people signed up for the event and took part to cycle a total of 172 miles – 68 miles over the distance of The Shires to Great Ormond Street Hospital, one of the beneficiary charities.

The team, which included the former centre manager Steve Murray and former operations manager, Vince Cortilla, joined forces to raise funds for the London children's hospital and Julia's House Children's Hospice, based in Poole.

Sarah Moore, The Shires Centre Manager who also took part, said: "It was a fantastic day. A real team effort with some great camaraderie amongst staff, customers and the centre's store teams. "On the day, our regular customers joined in and jumped on to help and we held a competition for the person who raised the most sponsorship money to win a Samsung Tablet worth £300. "This was a great motivator for everyone taking part. The page is still open so we're yet to announce the winner but we will be soon!"

Vince (72) cycled the furthest distance, clocking up 25 kilometres, 15.5 miles.
