The Shires Shopping Centre and Thorntons pulled together this week to fulfil their promise of a competition prize, following the theft of an Easter Egg basket last month.

JJ (11), from Trowbridge guessed there were 1500 eggs in the basket before it was taken from Thorntons' shop window. The basket, which actually had 1550 mini eggs, was stolen during the store's opening hours on Easter Saturday.

Sarah Moore, Centre Manager at The Shires, said: "I am dumbfounded that someone would steal a basket of eggs but we didn't want that to stop us fulfilling the promise to our customers that there would be a prize winner.

"We're delighted to present JJ and his family with his prize today and hope he enjoys all the chocolate!"

JJ collected the prize from The Shires with his mum Donna and his 12-year old sister, Crystal.

His mum Donna said: "We never win anything so this is a lovely surprise. We're really grateful to The Shires and to Thorntons for making sure the prize was still offered despite the original basket being stolen."
