Purple Tuesday is an international call to action to celebrate the Purple Pound - the spending power of disabled people and their families. It's a milestone awareness moment for an issue that is relevant 365 days a year. Worldwide, the Purple Pound is worth a staggering £2.25 trillion, yet less than 10% of businesses have a targeted plan to access the disability market. This alone highlights the commercial opportunities available for organisations and highlights the lack of accessibility currently in place for disabled people. The aim of Purple Tuesday is to make customer-facing businesses more aware of these opportunities and challenges and inspire them to make practical changes to improve the disabled customer experience.
This year, The Shires will be taking part in supporting Purple Tuesday by embracing the Sunflower Lanyard. The Sunflower Lanyard acts as a discreet sign that the wearer (or somebody who is with them) have a hidden disability and requires additional assistance. We are placing a supply of the lanyards on the pillar next to Boswells. We would ask that if you see anyone wearing a lanyard you recognise that they have a hidden disability and may require additional assistance.
More information can be found here.
Join us at The Shires for a special meet and greet with everybody's favourite Minions.
